The international community adopted a new global framework for the conservation of biological diversity in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada during the Fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The countries Parties to this Convention were invited to review their national tools for the management and conservation of biological diversity in order to align them with the new framework in order to solve the global biodiversity crisis. This revision mainly concerns the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) as well as the national biodiversity communication and financing plans.

In order to achieve these objectives, the results of which are expected by the sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP16) in October 2024, the Global Environment Facility wants to provide financial support to 138 developing countries including Burkina Faso as part of an initiative called 'Support for anticipated actions for the implementation of the new post-2020 global framework for biological diversity'. This initiative includes four components which are:

• Component 1: Alignment of NBSAPs and/or national biodiversity goals with the new global framework for the conservation of biological diversity;
• Component 2: Evaluated national monitoring systems and developed follow-up action plans;
• Component 3: Alignment and revision of policies and institutions to achieve coherence with the new global framework for the conservation of biological diversity;
• Component 4: Assessment of funding sources and developed an action plan to finance biodiversity.

From September 06 to 08, 2023 in Koudougou, the workshop to plan the activities of this initiative is being held. The overall objective of this workshop is the planning of the activities of the initiative 'Support for anticipated actions for the implementation of the new post-2020 global framework for biological diversity'.

Specifically, it is about:

• identify activities and develop a road map for the implementation of the four components of the initiative 'Support for anticipated actions for the implementation of the new post-2020 global framework for biological diversity;

• develop the tools and texts for setting up the steering and implementing bodies for 'Support for anticipated actions for the implementation of the new post-2020 global framework for biological diversity;
• develop the communication materials for the national workshop to launch the initiative 'Support for anticipated actions for the implementation of the new post-2020 global framework for biological diversity' in Burkina Faso (Information note, ToR, thematic communications, etc.).

The participants of the workshop are the representatives of the structures involved

in the management of biological diversity in Burkina Faso and resource persons.
