Preparatory workshop for Burkina Faso's participation in the COP 15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity in Montreal, Canada

Presidium

Under the theme “Ecological civilization, building a shared future for all life on Earth”, the fifteenth Conference of Parties on Biological Diversity will aim to lay the foundations for achieving the ultimate goal set by the United Nations, which is to allow “the world to live in harmony with nature by 2050”.

Responding to this major COP15 meeting, Burkina Faso will mainly aim to:

  • support the adoption of the new post-2020 global biodiversity framework;
  • support the project to establish a major global fund to significantly reverse current trends in the degradation of biological resources;
  • contribute to the harmonization of Africa's position on issues relating to digital sequencing of genetic resources, modern biotechnology in the fight against pandemics, and synthetic biology.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Sanitation (MEEA) in collaboration with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the “Facilitation of commitments for biodiversity” project called Biodev 2030 are presented as support instruments and aim to support all national actors whose actions impacting biological diversity, towards multi-actor commitments for the better conservation of biological diversity by 2030.

For this purpose, this COP 15 will be a privileged forum to promote the results and the approach adopted during the implementation of the Biodev 2030 project.

This preparatory workshop was the place for members of the Burkina Faso delegation to COP 15 to strengthen their capacity in order to disseminate the results of the project, which will certainly contribute to the discussions during the negotiations.
