National Data Validation Workshop for the 7th Biodiversity Report

On 30 December in Ouagadougou, in the conference room of the Ministry in charge of the Environment, a national workshop was held to validate the data collected for the preparation of the seventh national report on the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Presidium

Organized by the MEEA through the SP/CNDD, this meeting will bring together a hundred actors involved in the management of biological diversity and ecosystems in Burkina Faso.

The main objective of this workshop is to prepare the 7th national report on biodiversity, within the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Attendees

Specifically, it will be about:

  • present the national monitoring and evaluation system of the CMB-KM in Burkina Faso;
  • sharing the data collected on key indicators;
  • collect the amendments and recommendations of the actors;
  • validate the data in accordance with the realities of the holding structures.

A contracting party to the CBD since 1993, Burkina Faso is part of global efforts for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Following the COP15 held in Montreal in 2022, states adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (CMB-KM), which is now the international benchmark for halting biodiversity loss and measuring progress.

Attendees

In this context, in July 2025, the country began the process of drawing up its 7th national report, comprising several stages: collection, validation, drafting and final adoption. The data validation workshop is a crucial step in this process.

At the end of the work, participants should have a better understanding of the national monitoring and evaluation system, validated data on key indicators and consolidated recommendations for drafting the report.
