Biodev2030 workshop in Burkina
Biodev2030 : Start of the project and establishment of the multisectoral working group for the integration of biodiversity in economic sectors in Burkina Faso on 15 and 16 October 2020 in the Royal Beach Hotel room in Ouagadougou.

Organized by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in collaboration with the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (SP/CNDD), the overall objective of this workshop was to create a favourable framework for exchanges between the main stakeholders in biodiversity conservation and economic sectors in order to identify the actions needed for voluntary commitments in favor of biodiversity and sustainable development in Burkina Faso.
The workshop took place in three stages.

The first stage took the form of a plenary organized around presentations followed by exchanges. It is organized into two sequences, the first of which concerns three presentations to frame the context in which the BIODEB2030 project should be implemented: (i) the New Deal for Nature and Man and (ii) the post-2020 global framework. The exchanges that will take place at the end of this sequence will make it possible to provide details on the need to conduct the multi-actor process for commitments in favor of the integration of the preservation of biodiversity in economic sectors. The second sequence will include two presentations: (iii) the content of the BIODEV2030 project and (iv) the approach for assessing biodiversity and the threats selected within the framework of the project. The exchanges will make it possible to refine the methodological approach to ensure that the results will be understandable to decision-makers and actors in economic sectors that influence biodiversity in Burkina Faso.
The second stage was the official launch of the activities of the Biodev 2030 project, chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Environment, representing the Minister of the Environment, Green Economy and Climate Change in the presence of the Representative of the French Development Agency (AFD) in the presence of the Representative of the French Development Agency (AFD).

The third stage involved the holding of the first multi-sectoral consultation session. To do this, there was the establishment of the proposed Multisectoral Advisory Group to contribute to the achievement of the results of the BIODEV2030 project. This session amended and validated the constitutive texts and the action plan of the Advisory Group. The aim has been to have a group to promote knowledge, understanding and awareness about biodiversity at the national and local levels, in order to enable relevant actors to better engage in biodiversity conservation.
