The state of the environment in Burkina Faso in recent years is characterized by major environmental problems such as: pressures on biological resources and soils, the deterioration of the quality and the decrease in the quantity of water resources, the growing problems of urban environment and pollution as well as the harmful effects of climate change.

In this context, the sustainable management of natural resources remains a challenge and a national issue. It is important to define new guidelines, objectives and instruments in order to reverse the trend of degradation of these resources and to make Burkina Faso a green and prosperous country in a participatory and inclusive process.
