National Biodiversity Action Plan
Under article 6 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, of which Burkina Faso has been a Contracting Party since September 2, 1993, each member State has the obligation to develop national strategies, plans or programmes aimed at ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity or to adapt its existing strategies, plans or programmes for this purpose. In order to fulfill this obligation, the Government of Burkina Faso initiated the development of the National Strategy and Action Plan on Biological Diversity and adopted them in 2001. The National Strategy covers a period of twenty-five (25) years, while the Action Plan is five years and should be reviewed periodically.
