Challenges of the exploitation of non-wood forest products in Bontioli wildlife reserves (southwest of Burkina Faso)
Non-wood forest products are a real source of livelihood in sub-Saharan Africa. This study aims to measure the socio-economic effects of the exploitation of these products on users located around Bontioli wildlife reserves. Data collection from 325 heads of households was carried out using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were conducted in groups or individually with resource persons. The study shows that 98.5% of respondents consume NTFPs, which they obtain by rudimentary means (collecting, delimbing, hauling, etc.). These products contribute to the health care of the population. The PFLN trade concerns 44% of those surveyed. As for the financial income from this trade, they are used to buy food (52.7% of respondents), medical care (21.4% of respondents), clothes (16% of respondents) and kitchen utensils (8.8% of respondents).
